Cart Before the Horse

Orion’s BZA Industrial Solar Use Application Hearing will continue on 11/7/24. The Solar Technical Committee meets before then on 10/15/24. This cart before the horse scenario raises obvious and avoidable conflicts of interests.

Let’s take a look at who sits on the Technical Committee working on the solar ordinance. Individuals with obvious Conflicts are listed in red below:

  1. Orion Renewable’s Representative(s)
  2. Jenny Beverly (BZA & Plan Commission)
  3. Dave Ferguson (BZA & Plan Commission)
  4. Warren Auxier (Plan Commission)
  5. Dave Bramer (Plan Commission & Commissioner)
  6. Brett Copeland (Plan Commission)
  7. Lisa Hammock (Plan Commission & Orion Lessee)
  8. Mike Pittman (Plan Commission & Surveyor)
  9. Gene Riedel (Plan Commission)
  10. Lynette Anderson (Former Plan Commission & Zoning Secty)
  11. Josh Cline (Building Inspector)
  12. Amy Williams, Paid Consultant

What should happen? The Tech Committee should meet AFTER the BZA’s decision on the pending Orion application to avoid any Conflicts of Interest. With the 1-year Solar Moratorium in place, begs the question, why the rush?
