Madison Plan Commission 6-20-24

The City of Madison’s Plan Commission met on June 20, 2024, to hear AYPA Power’s request to amend the zoning maps for 15 parcels totaling 1,047 acres in the city’s 2 mile buffer located in the Deputy Pike and Chicken Run Rd Areas.

After a long meeting including hours of citizens testimony, the Plan Commission vacillated, but eventually voted to send an unfavorable recommendation to the City Council.

Q&A

It’s called the 2 mile buffer zone. By state law adopted by the county, the city of Madison controls zoning in this area and shares in tax revenues.

If you live in the county, you are taxed in the county, you don’t receive city benefits, and you cannot vote for the city officials controlling the use of your land in the county.

Use the only voice you have for now. Show up in numbers to each public meeting and be heard. Also, demand that our county change our ordinances to repeal the buffer zone, regain zoning control and use those tax dollars for the benefit of the county.

The areas faintly outlined in yellow in the below map includes all 6 applications listed in the application. Collectively this is AYPA’s CedarHoldCo 1,047 acre Solar Farm Project.
