Solar Ordinance Reading

The Commissioners for a second time, repeated a first reading of the new Solar Ordinance

A second first reading was required because the ordinance published on the county website was not the most recent version the commissioners were reading into the record.

Meeting Held 5 pm Thursday, August 21st, 2025
Public Safety Center Bldg., 620 Green Road, Madison, IN

Commissioner Little proposed changing the setback for non-participating land owners from 500′ to 650′ from the property line. Unclear discussions ensued to include pastureland in the 4,000 acres land coverage caps (Ordinance Page 67).

After confusion as to the ordinance, two amendments were discussed and agreed (unsure if voted on) to be returned to the Plan Commission for further revisions.

Public Comments were then heard on concerns with other aspects of the solar ordinance, changes in federal and state tax policies affecting commercial solar farms, and the status of the county’s moratorium on solar currently in place will be addressed at the next regular commissioners meeting  5 PM on September 4, 2025.  No further action was taken.

Thank you to to all our concerned citizens for your continued support in protecting our farm land and Jefferson County heritage.

Commissioners Agenda Notice

Our commissioners have again failed to take notice to include the 5 pm meeting time because you are supposed to know this is their regular meeting time.  For those not holding a process engineering degree, it has been deciphered and confirmed in this snarky notice for you 🙂
